How to Pack and Ship Your Cards for Grading
Learn the industry-standard way to sleeve, top-load, and securely box your cards for their journey to the grading facility.
Sending your valuable Pokémon cards off to a grading company like PSA, BGS, or CGC can be a nerve-wracking experience. The last thing you want is for your perfect Gem Mint 10 contender to be damaged in transit.
Step 1: The Penny Sleeve
Always start by placing your card into a fresh, clean penny sleeve. Do not use perfect fit sleeves, as they can be too tight and risk damaging the edges of the card.
Step 2: The Semi-Rigid Holder
Next, carefully slide the sleeved card into a semi-rigid holder (like Card Saver 1). Grading companies prefer these over hard plastic top loaders because they prevent the card from shifting during transit.
Step 3: Cardboard Sandwiches
Sandwich your semi-rigid holders between two slightly larger pieces of sturdy cardboard. Secure the cardboard pieces together with a couple of rubber bands (not too tight!) or some painter's tape.
Step 4: Bubble Wrap and Box
Wrap the cardboard sandwich in bubble wrap and place it securely into a sturdy shipping box. Make sure there is no room for the cards to bounce around inside the box. Add extra packing paper or bubble wrap to fill any empty space.
Step 5: Insure Your Package
Never skimp on shipping insurance. Always declare the full value of the cards you are shipping, and require a signature upon delivery.
